-- Federal prosecutors have filed hate crime charges against a Pennsylvania man they say stormed a Pittsburgh synagogue and opened fire, killing 11 people. Robert Bowers, 46, of suburban Baldwin, is charged with 11 counts of using a firearm to commit murder and multiple counts of two hate crimes: obstruction of the exercise of religious beliefs resulting in death and obstruction of the exercise of religious beliefs resulting in bodily injury to a public safety officer.
-- Rescue workers have retrieved six bodies from the sea where an Indonesian passenger plane crashed close to the capital Jakarta, 13 minutes after takeoff. The plane, a new Boeing 737 MAX 8, was carrying 181 passengers, six cabin crew members and two pilots.
-- To mark the final full week of campaigning before the midterms, the Trump campaign is launching a 2018 ad in support of Republicans. The 60-second spot is focused on the booming economy, with flashbacks to the economic crisis that started 10 years ago, warning that it "could all go away if we don't remember where we came from."

-- For the third time in a week, a suspicious package has been addressed to CNN. This time, the package was intercepted in Atlanta, the home of CNN's worldwide headquarters. The package appears identical to the other packages authorities say were sent by pipe bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc, who was arrested on Friday.
-- A student shot at a North Carolina high school has died. The shooting occurred in a Butler High School hallway and stemmed from a fight between the victim and the suspect, who is in custody.
-- There's been speculation that "The Simpsons" could be losing Apu Nahasapeemapetilon after "Castlevania" executive producer and show-runner Adi Shankar told IndieWire the show has decided to drop the character. "Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean weighed in on Twitter saying, "Adi Shankar is not a producer on the Simpsons. I wish him the very best but he does not speak for our show."
